Autumn 2012 Nos. 1-12 » Artist Statement "Autumn" is the third of my Seascapes "Seasons" series which include "Winter" and "Summer" 2009. All series were photographed at the exact location at the shore of the Atlantic Ocean in Rockaway Beach, Queens, New York. Each season has its own personality, and each image is a conceptual and personal view of the experience at the edge of the shore during that season. While winter is cold and isolating with the atmosphere gray and foreboding, summer is colorful and gay with the sunlight creating playful shapes on the sand and sea. Autumn arrives as the summer light is waning, and the sun is struggling to continue to warm the atmosphere. While the sand and surf are highlighted in "Winter" and "Summer", the sky is the main subject in this series...filled with clouds and disappearing light...portending the approach of Winter.
